Sundae in the Park
First Sunday each August

Upper Sellwood Park – at S.E. 7th and Miller
Noon until 4 pm
(Portland Parks often continues after 4 pm, with additional activities)

Looking for an outdoor family event that includes entertainment with the gleeful laughter of children, a rousing revelry of musicians, mischievous merriment of entertainers, and plenty of food?

Mark your calendar for the annual Sundae in the Park, scheduled for the first Sunday in August from noon until 4 pm!

Music and merriment starts at noon, and every hour is hosted by a different and exciting entertainment act for the pleasure of your family, friends, and neighbors to enjoy throughout the day.

Follow the crowd to the upper Sellwood Park at 7th and S.E. Miller Street, and let the fun begin!

Remember – the entertainment is FREE, and Ice Cream Sundaes are only 50 cents each!


Each year the musical entertainment includes a variety of new performers and a musical mix. From Jazz to the sounds of Dixieland, Scottish bands and bagpipers, Celtic to bluegrass – every year there’s a different variety of music styles for everyone to enjoy. See our past performers page, to get an idea of what we mean.

Children’s Entertainment starts at 1 pm – a fun-filled hour just for the kids! Every year we have entertainers from jugglers to comedians, from scary and scaly reptiles to daffy men on unicycles – or mad scientists to outer space invaders. Warning to parents: your children will never be the same after they have watched this year’s thrilling sideshow from 1 to 2 pm.

Don’t forget: Ice Cream Sundaes are only 50 cents; and don’t forget to visit the inexpensive food courts at the Sundae in the Park. Plenty to eat and munch on all day long including hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches, bagels, salads, coffee, soft drinks. Bottled water, and cotton candy too. All proceeds benefit Loaves and Fishes’ “Meals On Wheels” and other programs, so eat hearty!

What about activities for the little and big boys and girls? During the afternoon, we have a variety of events, face painting, rock climbing, petting zoos, hat making, arts and crafts, prizes, and storytelling. And did someone ask if we have games? We have games for all, young and old – croquet, bingo, or try your hand at bubble-blowing.

And yes, ice cream sundaes for two quarters (that’s 50 cents).

Mom and Dad! Visit our History Booth, Multnomah County Library table, Friends of Trees, Southeast Uplift, SMILE, Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation, and informational tables on light rail, sustainability, and many others to choose from – with many people waiting to answer your questions or show you their accomplishments. And all day long we’ll have continuous music for your enjoyment and did I mention: ice cream sundaes for 50 cents, served up by the Southeast Portland Rotary Club?
